Know the TRUTH!

Why is the TRUTH so important!? Without truth we cannot differentiate between right and wrong. There would be no set of rules for us to follow on our journey. We couldn’t make any progress because we wouldn’t know if anything has really happened. No matter what we are obsessing over, we couldn’t get there because what was true for you may not be true for all. So let’s learn about the truth and how we can use it!

There are two areas of truth: Science and Religion. In each area there are different things that express truth and different sets of truths. According to science, anything that is reality has to be observed repeatedly in the physical universe and composed of matter and energy. However, if a specific reality isn’t composed of matter or energy and doesn’t have the physical attributes of mass, weight, and density then that reality exists beyond the measurement of science. How would we classify things such as love, intelligence, consciousness, and the mind? In each case, something exists that cannot be demonstrated by the scientific method, but we know it as a truth.

Furthermore, science cannot deal with questions of meaning or value; it can only deal with matters of fact. Nor can anyone prove the tools of science by running some kind of scientific experiment. You have to assume those things to be true in order to do the experiment. Outside questions that relate to human beings and their purpose can not be answered by science but only by philosophy, metaphysics, and theology. If something isn’t true according to science, this doesn’t mean it’s not true at all. This is where faith steps in. Faith means to have complete trust and confidence in someone or something, usually God, and through his doctrines we can give meaning to those things that science leaves in the dark. For instance, I’m sure you’re confident that you had a specific dream at a certain period in your life. But science couldn’t tell you that. Only through your faith would you know that.

Luckily we don’t have to deny one in order to believe the other. Both faith and science are valid forms of knowing and both are part of God’s loving plan for humans. In order to completely obsess over something you need to know you’re going somewhere and all your efforts aren’t meaningless. For example, if you’re resisting temptation and growing stronger and stronger in your willpower, science tells us nothing happened and whatever you experience is a hallucination because the scientific evidence shows that there is no such thing as temptation or willpower. However if you turn to faith, you know you were struggling, you pushed through, and as a result of that you are now stronger. Apply this to anything you are obsessing over (weight lifting, shedding weight, eating healthy, etc) and realize your actions are having a huge impact!
